We are leaving in just over 12 hours. Let me give a basic overview of the trip for those of you who don’t know. Basically, my sister, Melissa, and I are going going to backpack through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam over the next 2 months. At the end of July Melissa will come home and I will go on to China. I’m going to try and find a job in China and work for about 6 months, probably doing ESL. I haven’t lined up a job yet so I am not sure where I’ll be. I’d like to be somewhere between Hong Kong and Shanghai. I didn’t want to sign a contract before hand as I wouldn’t really have an idea of where I’d be agreeing to work. Finding a job over there is riskier, but hopefully will pay off with a much better job/location.
After China, I am going to travel through the Chinese interior, passing through Tibet (and maybe Nepal) to India. I’ll have about 2 months at this point, I’m not sure if I’ll spend it all in India or what. The idea is to just be flexible and go with the flow.

I had been telling everyone that I was going to bring a micro bag that would fit little more than deoderant and dental floss. Well, I got to the store and all those bags were too small to fit me properly. I needed one tall enough that the hip straps actually reached down to my hips, so the bag I got was a little bigger than I had wanted. But as the picture (hopefully) shows, I’m trying to keep things down to a minimum. Hopefully I have struck the right balance.
Lastly, this site is meant to be interactive. So please leave comments below. And as always, you can send me an email. Talk to you soon.
